This volume includes in Part I (The Bounds of Judgement) materials from the beginnings of project The bounds of judgement – Frege, cognitive agents and human thinkers and in Part II (From an Ethical Point of View) further work by Mind, Language and Action Group (MLAG) researchers. The volume also marks the close collaboration of MLAG (University of Porto) with the research group Episteme (University of Santiago de Compostela), embodied in exchanges between ongoing projects The bounds of judgements – Frege, cognitive agents and human thinkers (PTDC/FIL-FIL/10798/2009) and Cognitive attitudes and the justification of knowledge (FFI2009-08828). We stick to the principle adopted for our two collections at FL-UP of publishing texts in the languages we work in, which in this case means, besides Portuguese, English, French, Spanish and Galician. We believe multilingualism with English as common denominator is the future for research in Europe, and we are very happy that this conviction is shared by all MLAG members and by all of those with work with us

Este volume é dedicado ao trabalho desenvolvido pelos membros e colaboradores do Mind, Language and Action Group (MLAG) do Instituto de Filosofia da FLUP em 2008, reunindo trabalhos apresentados no C-MLAG 2 (Colóquio Internacional Anual do grupo)m nas Conferências MLAG e no MLAG Working Papers Seminar. Os textos estão organizados tematicamente. Vão desde a natureza da mente (Freud e os problemas mente-corpo e mente-mente, a natureza do conceito de pessoa, as emoções, Espinosa e o problema corpo-mente) e a natureza da acção (livro-arbítrio, racionalidade na acção, deliberação, acrasia) até às questões de lógica filosófica (S. Kripke e o paradoxo do mentiroso) e de metafísica (transporte de estados cerebrais e persistência pessoal) e discussões da história da filosofia analítica (reflexões em torno do positivismo lógico e da filosofia da linguagem comum e de autores como O. MLAG is an innovative research group within academic philosophy in Portugal. Its members work in areas of philosophy related to cognitive science, arfeas in which philosophical work can be of great interest to people outside philosophy, such as philosophy of mind, philosophy of language and philsophy of action. This volume is an outcome of the Second National Meeting of Analytic Philosophy – ENFA – 2 which took place at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Porto from the 7th to the 9th october 2004. We think it has the virtue of revealing how ample and varied analytic philosophy can be. It is our hope that the tradition of holding National Meetings of Analytic Philosophy should henceforth be kept, thus stimulating creativity and interaction among Portuguese analytic philosophers, as well as providing an occasion for a dialogue between the Portuguese analytic community and the wider philosophical community.
